We then work to route your new cables from your consumer unit, all around the property.
3 Common Reasons To Rewire
Are Your Electrics Safe? HomeRewire™️. People choose to rewire their home for a number of different reasons, but the most common is peace of mind with regards to safety. Old or faulty electrics can lead to fires or electric shock so its important to maintain them properly.
Safety Conscious?
The risks of faulty electrics are well documented. Faulty Electrics are responsible for 12500 fires and 2000 electrical shock accidents in UK homes each year. With the introduction of residual current devices, the risk of fire and fatal shock is massively reduced, providing your system is installed to BS7671.
Time to Decorate?
You will almost certainly need to decorate after rewiring. Many homeowners choose to upgrade the electrics when they move home, or before redecorating. Clients will often rewire before the recommended 25-year interval if it suits their decoration schedule. We have worked with clients who have completely decorated only to realise they needed to rewire, so check your electrics before you decorate!
Latest Regulations?
Many clients simply prefer to customise and organise the electrical system in their new home. Rewiring allows you to reconfigure your system for example to add new socket positions, additional lighting, or the latest smart gadgets. If you are considering building works, or a new kitchen for example you will also need to ensure your electrics are up to date and safe.
10 Things To Watch
1. Have a look at your electrical appliances and how they are set-up
This may seem obvious but often we don’t notice dangers related to appliances which we use every day.
2. Avoid overloading electrical sockets
Overloaded extension leads are a common sight within many homes and offices.
3. Keep flammable items away from sources of heat
This is particularly relevant for those whose electrical intake equipment in located in a cupboard used to store potentially flammable items such as clothes and cleaning products.
4. Purchase electrical goods from a reliable source
A number of items purchased outside of, or imported into, the UK, do not meet national safety standards. These are liable to experience faults and consequently cause electric shocks and even set off fires.
5. Regularly check for worn cables and wires
Make sure the wire connecting your appliance to a plug is not loose and ensure it is not frayed. This should be done each time you use an appliance.
6. Using foreign appliances without a converter can be dangerous
Many appliances produced for markets outside of the UK should only be used with a suitable conversion plug or adapter. Without one, the socket can overheat and could cause a fire.
7. Switch off appliances at the plug when not in use
This not only saves energy but also reduces the risk of a fire starting. There are of course exceptions – some appliances, such as fridges, are designed to be left on.
8. Monitor product recalls
Although more than 560 recall notices have been issued in the past 12 years, response rates remain very low – usually between 10% and 20%.
9. Always use the right fuse
An incorrect fuse can cause a cable to overheat and means the appliance is not protected in case of an electrical fault. Always follow the appliance’s instruction booklet.
10. Don’t stick around in the event of a fire

Once on the register they become eligible for a tailored billing service, free meter readings and should something go wrong with their cooking or heating facility they are treated as a priority. After all if anything is going to happen… it is likely it will be when the weather is bad and they need it most.
