The Project

We recently completed a full electrical rewire on this three-bedroom detached property in Johnstone, just outside Paisley — finishing the entire job in just two days. The property had an antiquated fuse board that immediately flagged the need for a full upgrade, and with a new kitchen planned and the customer wanting to rethink the layout of sockets and switches throughout, starting from scratch was the clear and sensible choice.

The Challenge

As our team leader Zach explains, you don’t always need a specialist eye to spot when a property needs rewiring — sometimes the fuse board tells the whole story straight away. Beyond the outdated electrics, the customer had future building work in mind, including a full kitchen renovation. Getting the rewire done first meant no hidden surprises further down the line, with everything planned around the changes ahead.

How We Approached It

We began with a full walk-around with the customer, mapping out exactly where switches, sockets, and spotlights would go and factoring in all the personal touches they wanted throughout the home. From there, carpets were lifted and floorboards assessed to plan cable routes — we always work top down, starting from above and cleaning our way out as we go.

Day one covered all first fix work — making routes, grinding walls, chasing out the brickwork, and getting all new cabling in place throughout the property. By day two, our plasterer Gary was on site carrying out all wall repairs while our team moved straight into fitting all the accessories, including the customer’s own decorative lighting.

What We Delivered

  • Full rewire throughout the three-bedroom detached property
  • Consumer unit relocated from the front of the stairs to under the cupboard
  • New socket and switch layout throughout, repositioned to the customer’s specification
  • Three external barrel lights installed — two at the front, one at the gable end
  • Dedicated 32-amp circuit installed for the garage
  • Customer’s own decorative lighting fitted throughout
  • Full plaster repairs completed on day two
  • Full electrical testing and certification on completion

The Finish

From first fix to plastered walls and fitted accessories, the full rewire was wrapped up in two days — with the property clean, certified, and ready for the customer to begin decorating and press ahead with their kitchen renovation. No hiccups, no surprises, and no unnecessary time out of the home.

Was renovating my parents old house a late 60s 3 bed detached as the wiring was over 50 years old. Jamie came out to assess the job and managed to slot us in at short notice. Amy was very helpful with any queries that I had before the job started. Zak and Ryan turned up bang on time and finished up the next day at 1pm. The new electrics are great and we’re pleased that we took the plunge. The only downside is that it is messy but Homewire were at pains to point this out to us, so there are no surprises and we do need to redecorate. All in all a professional job by a very professional, approachable team.

Grant and Martin’s team arrived on time and did a thorough and fantastic job, with a really quick turnaround (3 days) considering they had to rewire the entire property. Upon arrival the team went through the plan with us, noting where sockets were to be added/removed, even installing a new light up mirror in our bathroom upon request. Overall, the entire process between our initial contact with Home Rewire, assessing the EICR certificate and completing the rewire was incredibly speedy, taking approx 3 weeks for everything.

Lewis, Thomas and Sam did an amazing job rewiring my flat on short notice too. They were very efficient and completed the job in 2 days even though it was definitely an awkward job. They left absolutely no mess and all the rubbish was packed up neatly and light so it’s been so easy to dispose of myself. I also couldn’t thank Jamie enough for sorting me out with organising the rewire even on a Sunday. The whole process was smooth and efficient and I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
